We're flying in and out of Pamplona in October and would like to rent a car (rather than travel by bus and train) to visit monasteries and Basque towns in Spain and France--crossing from Spain into St. Jean-Pied-du-Port or Ainhoa, France, then to St. Jean-de-Luz and back to San Sebastian before returning to Pamplona: a ten-day trip. Are roads well-marked and driving conditions good at this time of year? Any cautions or recommendations?
