driving from Venice to copenhaguen

We are arriving to Venice the first week of July and going in a cruise starting from Copenhaguen. We want to drive from Venice to Copenhaguen. Is it crowded at that time of the year? too hot? Which is the best route and what is it worth to visit on our way? Do we need to book hotels?
Thanks for any help

You'll need bare minimum 2 days to drive, unless you can drive all day and most of a night. Which way you go depends on how much time you have to spend stopping in towns along the way and what you would like to see (big cities, small towns, alps, castles, etc.)

Maria, "Do we need to book hotels?" Especially for travel in July, pre-booking Hotels would be a really good idea, as that's "peak" travel season in Europe. I wouldn't recommend driving from Venice to Copenhagen. If you rent the car in Italy and drop it in Denmark, you could be charged HUGE drop-off fees. Travel by train would be a much easier method and you could plan a short stop at one or two intermediate locations along the way. You could (for example) stop in Munich for one or two nights (travel time 7-8 hours), then Berlin (travel time ~6 hours) and finally to Copenhagen (travel time ~7 hours). The other option would be to use a budget flight from Venice to Copenhagen (about 6 hours). For example, Air Berlin has direct flights on that route, with "Saver" fares currently as low as £61.40. I believe Vueling and Norewegian Air also operate on that route. Note that some airlines may not offer flights on that route every day. Good luck with your planning and happy travels!
