Our family will be driving from Salzburg after a two day stay and want to make it to Rothenburg. I'd like to see Dachau on the way. We will not stay in Munich on the way. Is it too far a drive from Salzburg via Dachau to reach Rothenburg in one day? And if not, recommendations for blaces to stay between Munich and Rothenburg for one night? Can anyone help? Thanks.
According to google maps, this is about a 400km, 4 hr drive on the autobahn. Can you do it in one day? Depends on how much time you want to spend in Dachau. If you spend 2-3 hrs. in Dachau I would say you could do this trip in one day. Do you already have hotel reservations in Rothenburg? Of course, this would help. Have a wonderful trip making lifetime memories with your family!
Hi Jana, We've driven from Rotheburg to Berchtesgaden (Salzburg) in about 4 hours non stop. So yes, even with a few hours at Dachau, it's doable. Don't miss the Nightwatchman Tour in Rothenburg. 8pm, every night (mid Mar. to end of Dec. 24th), Town Hall square, no reservations, just show up. Paul
Yes, you can easily do it (unless on a Friday). Your drive from Dachau to Rothenburg will obviously be in the later afternoon or even early evening. You have two choices of routes: Via A8 and A7(via Ulm) or via A9 and A6 (via Nuremberg). You can have very heavy traffic on both so make sure you do catch the traffic advisory. The only radio station that will tell you where the traffic jams are in English is AFN. A list of their FM frequencies can be found on their website: http://www.afneurope.net/Radio/RadioFrequencies/tabid/89
