We will be renting a car in Paris and driving to Chamonix where we will be spending a couple of days in mid-August. Are there any fun places to stop between the two cities? What recommendations are there for Chamonix?
Annecy is a nice riverside town to visit. You will not need the car in Chamonix itself. Stay in the village it is wonderful w/ greta views.
We drove from Paris to Ch. We stopped in a small town out of Dijoin. It is a problem if you get off beat with eating. The town closed down after lunch. As a result we had a snack that I don't remember and then we weren't hungry for dinner. We took a winery. The tour was OK, but too long. We stopped and went into the basement for a wine tasting. It was great vinegar, but we felt sorry for the young lady that owned it and and bought 2 bottles. It was tried again later and poured out!
We had a great time in Ch. One day was spent on the Mount Blanc trip. We enjoyed it all except the long waiting lines. It had rained for a week and so everyone turned out on the first sunny day. Also many of the people in line had not used deodrant. Three of us were together so a single was put in our car for four. Same problem. Still enjoyed it.
Try the Hotel Eden. It is not far out of town and they were great. Loved it..
