Which is better route between Nice & Chamoix, stay in France( La Napoleon Route)or via Italy(Torino)and Aosta ? We are driving it the first week in October. Thanks
I would do the France route. you can ck www.viamichelin.com for exact details. I have driven and train alot in those areas and find that France would be more interesting a drive. Have you considered train Nice to Chamonix, prob about 5 hrs but more relaxing.
Thanks JS. We will already have a car making our way from Amboise, Sarlat, Carassonne, Arles and Nice. We will probably skip Chamoix if the weather isn't good and go to Annecy. Thanks
Be sure you know what you're getting yourself into if you drive the Route Napoleon. It's twisty and slow, but scenic. There are Autoroutes to the west if you simply want to get there.
Any idea how many hours it would take on the Napoleon Route ? Thanks
I think it's more a question of days...
viamichelin.com gives a distance of 484km and an estimated driving time of 8hr11min if you stick to the Route Napoleon. However, that's without stopping and under ideal conditions. I'm sure you'll need to add several more hours to that estimate.
Thank you so much for the info, I had intended to check that website, just hadn't gotten around to it !
