Could anyone share their experience with this very long drive. We are following the Whirlwind 3 week France trip this Summer and this is our longest day of car travel. Have you done this ? Can you recommend a nice stop halfway? Luckily we love the road but it's quite a hike. Thanks Caroline Also we will be in Chamonix on Bastille Day. I wonder since its their National Holiday if the lifts up to the Aiguille Du Midi will be open. We are in Chamonix for a few shorts days and hope the weather allows us to enjoy the sights. We spent three days of torrential rain in Murren two summers ago and on the last day, the clouds lifted and we were so sad to leave that spectacular location. It can rain every day except for the days we are in Chamonix. Any wonderful, family friendly, mom and pop type restaurant in or near Chamonix that you can recommend. I am thinking of something quaint, cozy and mountain style old world. Does that make sense? Anyway hope you can help.
Hi Carol, We drove from Chamonix to Villefranche-sur-mer in September of 2011 and went through Italy to get there. We took the Mont Blanc tunnel and the highway toward Genoa, then cut west. I'm not exactly sure the name of the roads just now but the journey was between five and six hours. We only stopped at a couple of rest stops, so I have no small towns to recommend as a stop. Have fun
Andrea
Where in the Riviera are you departing from? If you are departing from Nice or the vicinity, the fastest way is to drive via Italy (San Remo, Savona, Torino, Aosta), on a full-highway drive.
