driving from dinan to amboise

Hi, Has anyone driven from dinan to amboise in france?
Trying to see if we should return our rental car in rennes and take a train to amboise (we will have to rent a car for two days there.) OR just keep the car and drive to amboise. Any suggestions? Thanks, everyone!

Leaving dinan around 6pm. Our hotel is in amboise that night. From dinan to amboise will be the longest drive during our trip, so just trying to see any other options available. We are traveling at the end of april for two weeks.
As soon as we fly into paris, we will be driving to honfleur. Then, d day beaches and mont st michel. After that, dinan and loire valley.

You've got it made. Mid-April sunset is 8:45 and you've got another half hour until the end of twilight. That's civil twilight too, so it's not even really dark by then.

Two short-term rentals will cost more than a longer-term one. If you take the train, you will pay for it and two days or car rental all on the same day. That wouldn't ring my bell. It's all uncrowded freeway except for the first and last little jogs. It'll take you less than three hours.

The drive from Dinan to Amboise is only about 3.5 hours and all on great roads going through very pleasant countryside. Why pass up that nice drive in exchange for all the niff-naw of renting a second car, getting to and from the train stations and being a slave to the train schedules???? I hope to get back to Dinan some day, if just to have dinner at the Chez Bongrain down on the river.

I'm confused about the route. You now say you're driving from Paris to Dinan. The original question was Dinan to Amboise. Now something about evening has crept in. What's the whole plan, more or less? And what time of year? And what's the rough departure time from where ever?

Not sure what type of hotel you're staying at in Amboise but just to be on the safe side you might want to make sure you can do a late check-in, some don't have 24-hr front desk.
