WE ARE ARRIVING IN BARCELONA JANUARY 16 2010. WE ARE STAYING IN BARCELONA FOR THE FOR A FEW DAYS AND ON SUNDAY WE ARE GOING TO START OUR DRIVE TO VENICE WE WANT TO DRIVE FOR NO LONGER THAN 3 HOURS A DAY. CAN ANYONE GIVE US ADVICE WHERE TO PLAN OUR STOPS ALONG THE WAY.
How many days for the drive? It's fifteen hours of road time, at best. That means five days -- four over-nights at three hours per day. If you're planning on dropping the car in Venice, you should make sure that the second-country drop off fee doesn't break the bank. If three hours per day is an absolute, that almost makes it Montpellier, Antibes, Genoa, and Verona. None would be my choices. If you use three as an average (four to four and a half as a max on a couple of days) you can do a lot better. EDIT: After thinking about it for a couple of minutes, I think it's a horrible idea within those constrainsts. Such a complete waste of time that I wouldn't even recommend it.
WELL, IM NOT MARRIED TO THE 3 HOUR PER DAY. IM AS FLEXIBLE AS POSSIBLE SO FAR, WE HAVE PLANNED, THU FRI SAT IN BARCELONA, AT THE W HOTEL SUNDAY, WE ARE PICKING UP THE CAR, AND DRIVING TO CARCASSONNE. WE ARE THINKING ABOUT THE HOTEL DE LA CITE ON MONDAY WE ARE DRIVING TO PROVENCE, WE HAVENT PICKED OUT THE HOTEL YET ON TUESDAY WE ARE DRIVING TO MONACO, EITHER STAYING AT THE METROPOLE, HERMITAGE OR MONTE CARLO BAY ON THURSDAY WE ARE DRVING TO MILAN, WE HAVENT PICKED OUT A HOTEL YET AND ON FRIDAY WE ARE DRIVING TO VENICE,
AND SUNDAY COMING BACK HOME TO NY WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Okay, then you have it pretty well figured out except for the stop in Provence. My thought would be Nimes since it's central to what you can see in the Rhone area of Provence. You'll probably get a bunch of recommendations for Arles, but you can hit that on the way out of Nimes. What Nimes does is give you a lot to see right there without having to do more driving. I don't comment on hotels, that gets too personal. I'll restate my thought on the second-country drop-off fee. You really need to decide if you want to choke this cost.
Ed makes a good point about the cross-border drop fee on the car. It can be expensive and easily be avoided by taking the train Barcelona-Perpignan and renting a car there. When you're done with France, drop it in Monaco or Menton and take the train to Milan. Get a car there or take the train to Venice. Consider Cassis for the stop between Carcassonne and Monaco, then take the coast route through St. Tropez and Cannes to Monaco, making stop in Eze along the way.
