Driving from Barcelona to Provence area

You will do great! We drove from Barcelona to Nice in Sept. 2008 and it worked just fine. We picked up our rental car next to the train station (Hertz I think) and using the map the rental agency gave us and the ones I brought we were able to get out of Barcelona without problems. It didn't take long to get out of the city and on the the expressway headed north.

The drive to Nice took all day with not many stops. We took the toll road in France and while it was pricey it did help us get there effeciently. My husband was on business so the expense was reimbursed.

Thank you so much! My husband has driven in Paris Prague, and Vienna so I am hopeing Barcelona will be fine. So it should not take too long to get to Nimes. Maybe 4 hours as Nice is much further from Barcelona?

Any rental car issues from Company from Spain to France? Did you purchase extra insurance for collision and theft. We have major credit card but I'm told it may be safer to also add Travelgard for $9 a day?

Becky....also be aware of the high drop charges for renting in one country and dropping off in another....if you haven't checked them out yet, the cost may surprise you. As an alternative, you could take a train from Barcelona to, say, Perpignan, and pick up a car there. Most rental firms will have outlets at the train stations. An extra 30-60 minutes on the train could save you several hundred dollars.

We are renting the car in Barcelona on Friday and then returning back to Barcelona on late Monday evening where we fly out of Barcelona back to Houston, Texas
