How far or how long is it to drive from Fussen, Germany to
Beilstein, Germany (Mosel River valley) Thanks

Don't rent a car just for that trip. By rail to Cochem it is less than 8 hours and the cost, if you book a Sparpreis ticket in advance, would be just €29 for one person, €49 for two. It would be potentially a little faster by car, but fuel alone would be more than train fare, and rail travel would be much more relaxing. The bus from Cochem to Beilstein takes 25 min and cost €4 pP.

Alice, don't get lured into a trap by Michelin. The distance is probably fairly accurate at 490km / 300mi. Michelin shows it at about 4.5 hours; Google maps say about 5.0. Probably my bad luck, but the Stuttgart - Mannheim always seems to have problems. Plus that last stretch of five miles or so coming down into the Mosel Valley can really slow you down. If I had to do it, I'd allow six hours -- and I really move it on the freeways.

Late edit after Lee popped in while I was checking mileage: Yes, train (which I've not done), since that's an absolutely miserable drive.

Thank you for the information. I will heed your warning about the times as I noticed that a minimal amount of time is spent on the highway.

We are travelling through Rome and Dolomites prior to Germany, so will already have a rental car, but very good advice about trains as not only petro will get you but toll and taxes on roads, although in recently looking I haven't found too many "cheap" trains and I am used to training through France, England and Germany. Thanks again. Any other word of wisdom will be welcome and appreciated. Alice

I don't know that I like the term "cheap". The Germans have a word "Preiswertig", worth the price, or economical. I like that better. I thought €24,50 (€49 for two) all the way from Füssen to Cochem was pretty economical.

Unfortunately, German Rail has ended their Quer-durchs-Land promotional, which, for regional trains clear across Germany in a day, was €34 for one person, €5 extra each for co-travelers 2-5.

If you make this trip on a weekend day, it's only €37 for a Schönes-Wochenende-Tickets, for regional trains all across Germany.
