driving day trip from Nice

Hello everyone, I will be in Nice France for one week in an apartment. I've been to Nice several times but I am having a relative come in for the last couple of days and will show her around Nice. I am thinking that the last day it would be good to rent a car and take a day driving around showing her perhaps some hill towns. The question is:
Where would you suggest for a driving day trip? I'm interested in Grasse. What would you see there? Do you have any driving tips for this area?

Jeff,

A few places that come to mind - Eze, Villefranche, Monaco / Monte Carlo or perhaps a quick trip into Italy.

Check the France Guidebook for other ideas.

Happy travels!

I drove the corniche areas and thought it was fun to see Vence, Eze (for lunch or dinner)etc. summer driving can be very busy abd tiring , plan for it and do not go to far as it will be exhausting.

Jeff - There's a good article on Grasse in the Winter 2008 issue of France Magazine and you can read part of it on the website francemagazine.org.

I agree that Eze is worth seeing, as is Villefranche and Cap Ferrat. Renoir's home and garden are nearby in Cagnes sur Mer.

I got lost repeatedly driving in Nice so even for one day, a GPS would help.

Grasse area is really worth it. In Grasse you should visit Fragonard's villa and museum. On the way there or around Grasse, some places really worth seeing are Gourdon, Chateauneuf de Grasse, Tourrette sur Loup, St Paul de Vence, Vence. If you have time for only one of those, I'd definitely recommend Gourdon.
