Our family will be flying into Zurich and picking up a rental car. We are staying one night in Zurich and then the next 2 nights in Munich. What would be the best cities to visit on a day drive through the Black Forest and Bavaria to get to Munich?

It depends on how much driving you want to do. The heart of the Black Forest (like Feldberg or Triberg) is really the opposite direction of travel from Munich when leaving Zurich. You could head through some of the Black Forest towns on your way to Stuttgart, then head east to Munich. Or you can skip the Black Forest and head through Lake Constance (Meersburg, Lindau) towns on your way to Munich. This last option is what I suggest.
