My husband and I will be driving from Lienz to Venice the first week of October. We are looking for suggestions on what to see and also a nice city/town to stay between the two. We are open to hikes, funiculars, churches, museums, wandering a city, really anything. Lastly, where should we park the car before heading to Venice. It sounds like they have expensive parking at a garage in Venice, but I am curious about other options. Thanks!
Do you mean Linz in Austria. Or is it a different Lienz somewhere else? Which garage have you heard is so expensive? Have you considered parking in the high rise garage across the street from Ve.Mestre station?
Hi Dyan, I'd spend a night or two in the Italian Dolomites! They are spectacular! From Lienz to say the Alta Badia is about a 2 hour drive via Cortina d'Ampezzo. Actually, our favorite place to stay in this area is the Ciasa Montanara, which is in La Villa, Alta Badia. The Lagazouio cable car trip is open until late October. The Dolomite Passes are spectacular drives among up close Dolomite peaks. From here getting to Venice the next day should be about 3 hours or so. www.montanara.it www.dolomiti.org/dengl/Cortina/laga5torri/ospitalita/RifLagazuoi/index.html www.worldisround.com/articles/355539/index.html www.worldisround.com/articles/324504/index.html Hope this helps. Thank you for the information on the Dolomites. We are also driving from Verona to Innsbruck so we will spend half a day seeing the Dolomites. I realize that isn't very much time but that is all we have. Maybe we will plan another trip to spend more time there. It looks beautiful.
Other than the Venice train station parking you do not have any other options other than staying in adjacnet town of Mestre. Hotel Novotel in mestre has a shuttle to Venice and free or optional fee parking for their guests.
