My son and I are going to Europe for a month leaving in September. We are driving from Amboise to Colmar in one day (I know I didn't realize when I planned, but it is done now) Does anyone have any suggestions for a route to drive. I have looked on both mapquest and viamichelin for directions, but was looking now for something more in the way of nice areas to drive through between the two destinations.

The mapquest route is actually a very good way to go - about 6 hrs via the N60-A6-A36. If you hadn't already seen Chateau Chambord, you could visit it before reaching Orleans. Also along the way you could visit the basilica's at St Benoit-sur-Loire and/or Vezelay. The route takes you right to Beaune which is a great city to visit, and just north on the route to Dijon are several very good wineries where you could do some serious tasting.
I did a drive a couple of years ago that was very similar. The time estimate of the poster sounds close to mine. I got thoroughly lost on toll road and it was a long, long time to the next exit. So, be glad you have a navigator! I wish I had had one. But that said the drive was scenic and even when I was stuck in a long line behind a car pulling house trailer, I reminded myself that I was looking at beautiful French Trees and not Northern Wisconsin Trees. ; )

Thanks for your input, would appreciate any suggestions for stops in between that would appeal to an 8 year old boy as I think it's going to be a bit of a car ride for him :o)
