Dress shopping in Paris

What great timing, my teenage daughter has been asked to the prom just before our Easter break trip to Paris. Can anyone suggest where to shop that won't break dear old Dad's bank account, but she can find something none of the other girls will be wearing?

Sorry Dan, I don't have any suggestions as my first trip to Paris is in May. However....you are an awesome dad! The fact that you even care is incredible.

Steve, you are a wealth of info. I have printed out your link and plan on spending all of my husbands money there!!

There are whole books on shopping in Paris! Check your library or bookstore--I've checked out quite a few from my local library, that cover vintage, designer, you name it. I'm sure there are plenty of websites and blogs that can point her in the right direction as well. Beware, though, clothes in Paris are expensive compared to the US, and stores are officially only allowed to have sales twice a year (January and June).

The larger department stores are probably where you are going to get the best deal - Galeries Layfayette, Le Bon Marche and Le Printemps. The Marais is where you can find the trendy, young designers, but those may indeed break your bank account. Here's a recent article from France Today on the Marais.
