dress code in salzburg/munich churches

Hi - When sightseeing in Munich and Salzburg, is there a dress code for visiting the cathedrals? i.e..can I wear shorts? what about sleeveless tops?

Thanks,

For just visiting a church in Germany, wear whatever you want. For attending a service (in churches that are increasingly becoming more empty), in my experience, Germans tend to wear more modest clothes than Americans.

I agree with Tom. In my experience what you wear is not an issue unlike the dress code encountered in Italy. We wore shorts and fit in with the crowd. Nicer more modest attire would be appropriate for attending a service.

A lot of churches that tourists visit in Germany, have been "decommissioned". They are strictly tourists sites and are not used for any services. In that case, one can wear shorts and most anything else. But if the church is used for worship, one should observe the same modesty rules as they have in Italy and lots of other places. To wear shorts at a place of worship that is still in use is disrespectful-even if there isn't a guard at the door enforcing it.
