I have tickets for the ballet "Rain" at Opera Garnier in May. I have no idea of the appropriate dress code for this venue. I live in Florida and our traveling Broadway show attenders have a wide variety of attire, very casual. We travel light the Rick Steves way but we can squeeze something else in to not look out of place. Any helpful suggestions?
Wear what is comfortable and be happy you have tickets;
I've never attended the Opera Garnier, but in general at the top level classical music ensembles in Europe, you'll see everything from evening gowns and tuxedos to T shirts, jeans and sneakers. They only care that you have a valid ticket. Wear what you consider comfortable and appropriate.
Debbie - I'd wear a pair of black slacks and a dressy top or sweater and either flats or sandals.
Garnier will be a little dressier. If you can get black or brown Chico Travelers pants and jacket into your bag paired with a shell and a scarf or necklace, you'll be ready to go. Ultra practical, my many pairs of Travelers go north, south, jogging, to yoga, the opera, tramping out to farms and forests....
You will have an unforgettable evening. Dress as well as you can and that will make it a bit more special. (Just a tip - even though photography is not allowed during the performance, do sneak in your camera anyway). You "can" take photos at the end when the cast does their curtain calls. They will do several! Enjoy!
