I've heard that gentlemen are supposed to wear a jacket, preferably with a tie, for the casino in Monte Carlo. A suit jacket is NOT a good item for a one-bag traveller because you're only going to use it for a few hours. Can anyone who has been there share their experience? Also, I have no intention of wearing a dress or skirt - what is the dress code for ladies there?

Diane, I located an official web site, which is shown below. Apparently, a jacket and tie is required for men to enter the casino. Information about womens' dress code is not shown. I would judge that a pant suit would be OK. Here's the web site:

If you want to enter the casino there is a dress code. It can be summed up as 'Dress Elegantly'. The good news is that if you just want to play the slots you can do this in the entrance and no dress code is required. A word of warning - the casino is very expensive, you can lose a lot of money in very little time, minmum stakes are high.
