Hello! My husband and I will be staying in Saxon Switzerland for a few days and we will be spending 1 day in Dresden. We have 1 1/2 year old twins and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on things to do that would be "doable" for us. I don't plan to visit art museums, etc but do things where we can go with the stroller or parks where the girls can run around. Any ideas? Thanks.
Between the Hygiene museum (Dresden is actually the place where everything we know about and all hygiene today was first discovered and made rules for the population) and the Zoo is the Rose Garden, one of the most beautiful urban park areas. There also is the Vitreous Volkswagen Manufacture where they build the upper class cars in a very modern, nice and clean way. You can enter the lobby for free but actually see a lot from the outside already as well. A park railway (rideable miniature railway) also goes through the entire park and it might be fun for your kids, too (and provide you with a nice break). Then I think the entire Prager Strasse pedestrian zone is worthwhile. It's all 1950s-70s East German architecture which now has been added with plenty of 21st century marvels...
Faith,, sorry, this is not going to be a helpful post, but just a comment.. Whenever i see the title of this thread it makes me giggle. When I see the word "Dresden" I think of Dresden china,,,and then the word "toddlers",,I get a visual of two little types let loose in a china shop, lol
Thank you all for your suggestions. We had a wonderful time there and great weather for the first two days. We did the RS walking tour, which worked great with our girls who were good sports the whole time. We took turns popping into the churches so we didn't have to take the girls out of the stroller. We had a great picnic lunch on the pomenade and the girls loved watching the boats and running around a bit in around the trees. We did try the small train in the big garden, but unfortunately it was still closed on Mondays, our first attempt. We went back again on our last day only to find it closed again on a random Thursday. We were a bit disappointed in that, but all in all we had a great trip. We also visited the Bastei which was breath-taking and the Festung Koenigstein, which was also astonishing for it's pure size and height. A lovely, lovely visit.
