My friends and I (3 women) will be staying in Dresden for 2 nights, on 5/31 and 6/01/11. We are having a hard time booking a hotel; apparently it's the "Day of the Church" and most places are fully booked. We've used booking.com, RS Germany book and the Dresden TI online site what's left (not much) is way too expensive. We're looking for something around 110-120E per night. Does anyone have any suggestions for pensions, apartments, etc. which may not be listed on the above sites? We would be willing to stay outside Dresden and commute in for a day - if so would want something a reasonable train distance away (30-45 mins). Thanks everyone.
Hi, You might consider staying in Meißen, the closest town to Dresden. You take the S-Bahn from Meißen to Dresden Hauptbahnhof, ca., 40 mins. Located about a 15 mins. walk from the Hauptbahnhof is the DJH hostel on Maternisstraße, where I've stayed at and where you can get private rooms.
Thanks. After I posted my question I was looking through the archives and saw there's some kind of a church convention there - over 100,000 people. Wow! I'll check out your suggestion in Meissen.
This is a tricky one, because on June 1st the Protestant Church Day (a huge biannual multi day convention) kicks off. I did a quick search oh apartment rental sites and that night is a nightmare ... booked booked booked. My first step was www.ferienwohnungen.de, though there were several places that did not have their occupancy dates online. An email would not hurt, though chances are slim I fear. If yu are still on the hunt i can send you a PM with some WWW addresses and of course I'll help with the German if need be.
From Chemnitz (where I live) it's a 1 hour train ride (Sachsenticket usable), a bit over your commute time limit, though. Michael
Good news - I found a place in Dresden! Not sure how we managed, but it's taken care of. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
