Planning a trip this spring to Provence and considering driving back to Paris airport via Dordogne. Will be in area only short time, May 1 & 2. What type of weather should I expect in Dordogne area or should I consider a different route to Paris airport.
The weather could be quite fine. That's not to say that it won't rain one or both of the days you have free. If May 1 & 2 represents all the time you have go get from Provence to Paris, however, I wouldn't do it at all. You would be spending all of your time driving. ¶ I'm not even sure it is worth such a big detour even if you have four days (with two in the middle for the Dordogne). It's a lovely place, with lots to see and do, but the sights are spread out. ¶ You should weigh this plan against the option of two more days in Provence, with a direct train from Avignon to Charles DeGaulle. Or two days in Paris (take the train). Or a different stop that is more enroute (Lyon, Burgundy). ¶ Don't get me wrong, the Dordogne is fabulous. I just think you should weight all your options.
i was in that region 2 years ago about the same time as you have here. weather is pretty mild, with a little bit rain, only hard on one day. from dordogne (i.e. salart) to paris is a long day drive if just stop for break, and another option is to return your car to a bigger town and take a train back to paris. i trained from paris to bordeaux, which took about half day. with a car you may stop by somewhere in louire valley if you have time.
I will be spending a week in St. Remy and figured two (2) days to get to Dordogne area. One night there and then two days to drive to the airport in Paris.
Bill, your plan is certainly feasible but I predict that your one night and day in the Dordogne will not be the highlight of your trip. It's just not a drive-through sort of destination. ... It could be a very memorable road trip, however. Have a great time.
Those actually interested in the typical weather of a destination they're thinking about, probably will be better off investing the 5 minutes needed to check out the weather facts given here: http://www.wunderground.com/tripplanner/index.asp * * * You input your dates (up to 2 weeks) and location, it returns a nice summary of the last 15 years of weather for your specific dates (plus details if you have the intestinal fortitude for details). Or, you can just wing it.
