We're thinking about a trip either in Mid to late Sept. or in early Oct. to either Provence (the Arles area) or to Dordogne. The weather I think would be fine in Provence either month. But, if it's early Oct., would it be too cool/cold in the Dordogne region?

The weather in both regions will be fine, and in my opinion, you should go to Dordogne, it's very nice that time of year ! Try to stop by small villages and then you can go to Bordeaux.
