nerja nerja nerja!!!! its on the costa del sol, in southern andalucia. its a smaller town, VERY SPAIN (i lived in spain for a while, and nerja is typical). there is a degree of tourism, but few large resorts. most people rent townhouses (which are VERY affordable, and more comfortable than a hotel). its also incredibly low-key and relaxing, nice beaches, cute shops, and enough restaurants to try a different one every meal for a couple weeks! this is where we rented our townhouse from

I echo Amanda's thoughts about Nerja. Just 4 miles away is the stunningly beautiful white washed town of Frigiliana. When we were there in August, we walked all around the hilltown snd there were virtually no tourists anywhere. The views of the ocean there took my breathe away. Also the formations in the nearby Nerja Caves reminded me of gothic cathedrals...the most beautiful cave I've ever seen. In Nerja we sat at a table overlooking the ocean cliffs at the Parador, drinking wine and eating olives and enjoyed one of our most memorably perfect, beautiful evenings of a lifetime.
About 10 years ago I spent a month in Santander, Cantabria, Spain. It was awesome then. Here is a website that has some information about the city...http://www.santanderspain.com/
I hope this helps!
