In an effort to use well-seasoned Delta frequent flyer miles to get free business class seats, my wife and I have a stopover in Dusseldorf for our last afternoon-evening in Europe at the end of July. Can anyone recommend a sight or two to see and a moderately priced (but good) restaurant? We are staying at the airport Sheraton that night, so will take the train into the old town, I suppose. Thank you.
Walter, Düsseldorf is Germany's No. 1 tourist destinantion - for visitors from Japan and Korea. It's Germany's fashion headquarter, a wealthy (some say rather snobbish) beautiful city. I recommend staying in the media harbour part of town, e.g. the new Radisson or Marriott. Great restaurants in all price ranges within walking distance, almost Mediterranean flair in the streets and along the embankments. Take the elevator up to the Rhine tower and see the entire city and how the rhine river meanders thru it. Spend about 2 hours with shopping Kö (Königs-Allee, but everybody calls it Kö) and after dinner in the Media Harbour walk the rhine embankments to the Old Town. It's all pubs lined up, even more than in Dublin's famous Temple Bar area. You will love the city!
Thank you for the enthusiastic reply. I think we will enjoy our time in Dusseldorf!
