In South Florida Crocs are everywhere. I am wondering if it's OK to travel with these (easy on/off at airport, can get wet, washable) or if it's just an American thing.
Thanks.

Crocs are by no means an "American" thing. When I was in Switzerland last October there were entire stores selling nothing but crocs. For the record, I hate the sight of them! I don't care if they are comfortable:)
I saw Crocs everywhere in the UK. However with Crocs you have to watch what color they are!!!
Lime green, shocking pink, orange would look out of place in Paris or London. People in Europe (particularly in cities) do not wear the bright colors we would wear in summer and I assume you do in FL. They wear these colors at beaches, etc.
Cecily - Crocs are everywhere; even the bright colors. I saw many kids (adults too) wearing them in the Cotswolds. I wear the black when I travel. Great for the plane and lots of walking on uneven pavement.
Recently back from rurul France and Paris and didn't see too many kids wearing them BUT my son was asked lots where he got them, and a saw Croc knock-offs in the stores.
Hmm...a kid might be able to get away with it but Paris is a very dressy city (even the kids generally look fantastic). It's actually considered quite rude to be dressed too casually--merchants don't want you in their store, cafe, etc, if you are dressed like a slob (ie like most Americans--t shirts, shorts, tennis shoes). Maybe use good judgement if he must wear them--walk around all day, but change into nicer shoes if you're going out to eat.
I do know Crocs are comfy, but really, they ARE garden clogs, or beach wear,, you will see mostly other Americans in them while you are in PARIS.. now, that said my godmother( french) does own some but she leaves them at her back door to go to the mailbox in and to garden in,, she would sooner die then even wear them to get bread down the street.
So, no they are not just an American thing, but only Americans would likely wear them around Paris .
Thanks for all of your replies. I just want to say that I was only asking for two little boys ages 2 and 5.
My friend is expecting her first baby and her feet are swollen and we just got her a pair of crocs that look like black flats. They don't look like crocs at all they are more sleek than ballet flats and she can wear them with a skirt and they look good. There are so many other styles out there that they don't have to look like garden clogs.
We were in Italy in the summer of 2007 and saw many people wearing crocs, particularly children. Many places sell them too. Didn't see many of them in France or Italy in the summer of 2006.
Cecily, who would care what a cute little 2 yr old was wearing, I mean if they are comfy and safe( don't crocs fit kind of loose, I mean for a 2 yr old can't they " run" out of them?) then I would let my little ones wear whatever the heck they want,,LOL
Little children are not the same as adults .. as long as they are not naked who cares. :)
Crocs are so ugly I can't bring myself to wear them, not even to save my feet. I shudder at the thought. Maybe when I turn 90 :-)
But on kids I guess it would be okay, though there are so many other shoes to choose from that couldn't come loose.
