Do I need a Visa to go to Spain?

Hi, I'm traveling to Spain this summer with my mom and aunt. Per Rick's book guide to Spain, we don't need a visa but my mom/aunt has been told that we do. We're going for approximately 10 days. Can someone confirm whether we do or do not need a visa for 10 days?

Also, we're planning to be there a whole week including the weekend we arrive and the weekend we leave and we plan to visit Madrid, Barcelona and Andalucía. My traveling plan is exactly in that order since I'm only interested in visiting the Picasso and Dalhi museums and since we're probably be able to do the Ramblas in a day, I think 2 1/2 days in Barcelona should be enough. Or would you recommend a different approach?

Thanks,
Angela

Hi Angela,

I will presume that all of you are carrying American passports. As per the US State department, the rules for entering Spain are "U.S. citizens may enter Spain for up to 90 days for tourist or business purposes without a visa. The passport should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay."

To verify the information and to check all the details, take a look at the State department website by clicking here.

Thank you, Steve. I have a U.S. passport but my mom and aunt have a passport from the Dominican Republic (they're U.S. residents). However, as residents they can fly anywhere from the U.S. (musing) hm, but that probably means they'll need the visa. I'll check out the link you provided. Thanks again.

As an American citizen, you do not need to get a visa to visit Spain.

As citizens of the Dominican Republic, your mother and aunt do need to get a visa. (It doesn't matter that they are legal residents of the U.S. It only matters as to what country's passport they hold.)
