Can anyone tell me how long it would take to walk from the Avignon Centre station to the Palais du Papes? Am trying to see if I can go for a quick stroll and take a look at the outside of the palace during a long train connection. Thanks!
Hi Julia, we have not actually done the walk, but we do know that the train station is just outside of the old rampart that surrounds the city. If I had to guess, it could not take more than 30 minutes to walk to the Palias du Papes from the train station. It is worth the walk, it is very pretty. If you have the time, walk to the top of the hill beside the Palais to over look the Rhone river and the famous Pont du Avignon bridge.
Both www.viamichelin.com and www.mappy.com estimate the walking time to be under 20 minutes. The distance is 1.4km.
I was on the TGV to Avignon. Can't recall if it's the same stop you will be at, but it was a crowded bus ride into town. Definately not a "quick stroll". Avignon is a great place, and I would recommend staying over if you have the time.
The TGV station is a different station than Avignon Centre.
