Based on Rick's 2012 France guide, we decided to visit Martel & Taittinger during our VERY brief stay in Reims because he said they are only a few blocks apart and we do not have a car. However, when trying to determine how far apart we should schedule our visits, I looked at Google maps & it shows a distance of about 3 KMs. Does anyone know which is correct? Thanks, Elly
Are you using the actual address of the tour location on Google Maps? From my experience in Reims, the actual entrance of the tour can be quite different from the factory/business entrance. Perhaps the RS book is talking about the tours and Google Maps is going off of business address? Although, honestly, I don't remember any 2 of the major champagne places being really close together. If you have VERY limited time, you may need to pick your tours based on the times they are available in English, rather than just location. And then book in advance to make sure you get the time(s) you want.
Yes, it's possible that the location on Google Maps is the office or the bottling plant rather than the shopwindow. But Google Maps isn't 100% correct. (Personal note: it still gives the address for my workplace that we moved from fifteen years ago, a good 30 minutes' walk away, and they can't be bothered to correct it despite repeated complaints.)
You could try contacting the TI in Reims to see what they say about the two locations, might be more accurate.
Thanks for the replies. I double checked the address of the cave, not the business & that did it. I'll toast you all in Reims!
