discount coupon books for Europe?

When we were traveling in Alaska, we ran into folks who had discount coupon books they had purchased ahead of time for the area. They had coupons for huge discounts for major sight seeing attractions, events and tours.
We were wondering if any such coupon books existed for Europe or if this is strictly an American phenomenon?

Most larger cities have these coupon books. You can usually find them at the tourist office, or on a rack in hotel lobbies. If you go to the websites of the tourist offices, you may even be able to download the booklet.

A lot of cities have "city passes" (ex. "London pass", etc.) You buy this pass and then you get some stuff free and some stuff at a discount. In my experience, these are usually not a good deal (unless you plan to visit every museum). They are usually set up in a way that it wouldn't be possible to get your money's worth.

However, I have just finished traveling in Europe for the past seven months in the off season, and I couldn't recommend this more. We haven't had to wait in line for anything (that is really not an exaggeration), most places have been crowd free, and we have saved a ton of money (a lot of hotels, attractions, etc. have off season deals).

Also, most European cities offer discounts for those under 26 (not sure how old you are or with whom you are traveling). They often have discounts too for EU citizens (if this applies to you).

Finally, if you Google where you are going you can sometimes get deals when you combine a train and an attraction (this is particulary true in London), and you benefit most if you are in a group of about 4 or so.

Have a great trip!
