Dinner and cruise on the Seine in Paris

I am looking at a tour that does a cruise along the seine and then a fancy dinner, here is the summary:

Combined Seine River cruise, Paris illuminations tour and late dinner at a Champs-Elysees restaurant

Escorted evening cruise along the Seine River

Three-course dinner with wine at Chez Clement on the Champs-Elysees

Illuminating commentary from your expert guide

Individual audio sets onboard your coach, available in 15 languages

The cost is about $100 pp which doesn't seem like too much if the 3 course dinner is really nice and would be super pricey anyway. Do you think this is worth the money?

If not, or even if you do, do you have any other ideas that would accomplish roughly the same thing for a cheaper price?

Thanks!

Over priced in my opinion. The restaurant seems to be one of a chain by that name and on the website the 3 course dinner can be had for 19 euro. Reviews not very complimentary. You would be better off taking a river cruise on your own and having dinner on your own and saving some money for a good lunch the next day. No one needs "an escorted" evening cruise.

For a cruise on the Seine I think you'll be much happier with a small boat that provides only a cruise, like Bateaux Les Vedettes du Pont-Neuf. Have a good dinner on your own.

should I book whatever I decide on ahead of time. I checked out the boats from pont neuf and they look fine to me. Just wondering if anyone has done these cruises?
On the site mentioned above if you book online you save 4 Euro pp but then you are locked into a time, do you think that is worth it?

Don't book ahead of time, it's not necessary and you may decide to do something else, or the weather might be unpleasant, or whatever.

what is the best price for a great romantic dinner that won't break the bank (if possible, if not, hit me with your best shot!)

Since it's your bank ....... Ciel de Paris, top of the Mntparnasse Tower. Seventy-five euros a head. Best views in the city.

Second choice is any neighborhood brasserie you can find at one-third the price. Look around the Latin Quarter or Saint Germain, there's one in every block. Stay off the main drags by a block or two to find the best ones.

I agree with the advice to do a river cruise without the dinner. Buy your tickets right before the cruise. I think it's best to be one of the first in line to board to get your pick of seats.

We did not take a dinner cruise, but I believe the evening boat ride we took offered a discount in conjunction with the Paris Museum Pass.

In addition to the narrated boat tours you can also use the batobus. It is a boat-bus with multiple stops at all the normal tourist places on both sides of the river. It is a great way to get around and a 5 day pass is only a few euro more than a one day pass. When we were there in August 2006 it stopped running for the day before you could the complete loop in the dark. If you want to see the river in the dark - which I recommend - you might want to do the other cruise too. I was disappointed that it didn't run with we were there in the winter time.

I'm a batobus fan/champion, but I bumped what Tim stuck up there and for a one-time shot I think he found the best price; and maybe a bit more ambiance as well.

Chez Clément is just one of a chain of restaurants all over Paris, decent food, but not fancy. If it's your only night in the city, okay way to get the boat, bus and night lights while being taken care of; however, i'd vote for wandering around

I would not book in advance -- you can pick up brochures at your hotel and book from there. The last time we were in Paris, we did a similar trip -- a boat cruise on the Seine, city lights tour, and dinner on the lower level of the Eiffel Tower. I don't remember what it cost, but it was reasonable and we enjoyed it. (Being under the Eiffel Tower while the lights twinkled was really neat!)I can understand why people do these tours. I my case, I travel with my Mom who has limited mobility, so the transportation part of it makes it attractive to us even though we'd prefer to do something on our own. Have a wonderful trip!
