dining in Portugal

WE are planning two weeks traveling in Portugal. I would love travelers' restaurant recommendations in Lisbon, Lagos, Oporto and the Douro Valley.

In Lisbon I can recommend Bonjardim which has terrific roast chicken and great prices-very popular place. RS describes this place as located in the "eating lane."

Go to Sacramento in Lisbon. Pre or post dinner having some port and cheese at The Port Institute is nice. I loved Portugal!!! Have fun.

Bomjardim was our favorite in Lisbon. Most wonderful chicken we ate in Portugal. For lunch, in Belem, go to the pastry, I don't remember the name but it's got a blue sign and there is always a line-up for take-out pastry. Don't wait in line, you can go inside and have lunch (sandwich, salad, etc) end you need to end your lunch with their specialty " pasteis de nata" best place to have them.

Since it's been 6 years since we were in Portugal so had to dig out the Rick Steves book to refresh my memory for the name of the town on the Douro river where we had a great lunch.... Pinhau. I believe the restaurant was in the Vintage house hotel. We still remember the octopus appetizer as the best octopus we ever eaten.

In the Douro Valley we also stayed in Pinhao but we stayed at Hotel Douro. They do have a restaurant but at that time (2010) they only served hotel guests. We had some of the greatest meals there, especially good because they were prepared by the owners!

Absolutely the BEST restaurant we tried in Lisbon (among many that were very good) was Momenti Italiani at Rua da Misericordia (Barrio Alto). Yes, I know, an Italian restaurant in Lisboon, but try it. It was fantastic!
