All, if you had to choose between staying in Dinan or Saint Malo, which would you choose and why? I have 2 nights and I'd rather stay at the same place than pack up and drive somewhere else. (Although I'm perfectly fine doing a day trip) Thanks,
Renee
They're both neat little towns. The problem is that they're both so small that you can see all there is to see in each in a half day. St Malo has a wee bit more to see and has really good grub, so it'd get my nod. The two are only a half hour apart. A good day loop with only about an hour and a half of driving runs: St Malo, Dol de Bretagne, Combourg, Dinan, St Malo. You can skip Dol if you care nothing about menhirs.
To me St malo, inside the walls is more atmospheric. Like a wllaed mediaeval town, with interesting shops etc to browse. The streets are neat to walk and the real fishermen are great to watch. I would easily stay there two nights, but probably spend most of the day seeing nearby spots and roaming St Malo in the evening. I have stayed at Dinan and dont see the attraction (particularly compared to St Malo)
