digital camera questions

Greetings all. I leave for our 2 week trip to Spain in two weeks and am getting things crossed off my list. One of those things was whether or not to buy another memory card for my digital camera and I'm looking for opinions.

I'm bringing a netbook along to document my trip as well as the pics I'll be taking. I'm hoping to upload my pics every day onto my netbook and then also to my flickr.com account on the web. At first I was thinking I'd need another memory card but now I'm thinking perhaps not? I'm bringing a flash drive to back up my documentation and pics as well.

so....do you think I would need another memory card? I need to figure out how many pics the memory card I have will hold and then once I back them up I can erase them and start over. so, probably don't need another memory card right?

any opinions are greatly appreciated. thanks!

SD cards are cheap as chips now. Might as well by a couple extra just in case one dies. Electronic items tend to be a lot more expensive overseas.

Of all the things you have spent money on for your trip, an extra memory card is probably the cheapest, and it's good insurance against your other card giving up the ghost along the way. When we were in China, my dad "accidentally" erased his pictures from his card. I knew they weren't really gone, but it was the only card he had. We had to find a store and buy a new card (and take the old one to a camera store on our return to have his pictures retrieved).

Buy cheap memory cards from ebay, Wal-Mart, etc. We take 2 or 3 extra 4 gig cards. Never know when picture taking becomes great and you take a lot of pictures and run out of memory at the worst time. We also figure if the picture is worth taking, it is worth using the best resolution the camera has, which also eats up memory. Hence, the extra cards. Also, take rechargeable batteries and a charger. Check the charger and see if it will take 220 Volts, which is European voltage. If so, all you need is a plug adapter to use it. Back to ebay again or Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, etc. Batteries tend to be really expensive in Europe. We take 3 sets of rechargeable batteries, plus what is in the camera.

Toby,

I'd also suggest packing a few more Memory Cards. Memory is quite "cheap" at the moment, so this isn't an issue for most.

If you're taking lots of photos, the Flash Drive might run out of room fairly quickly. I use RAW files mostly (which create large file sizes for each image), so Flash Drives are not an option in my case.
