diet restrictions on river cruise

My husband and I are both lactose intolerant. How difficult is this going to be as we sail from Amsterdam to Budapest?

You might want to check with your cruise line.

My first port of call would be to check with whoever is providing food to you - in this case I would contact the cruise line asap. Your other thread made it sound like this already booked.

I have no idea which cruise or cruise line you're taking, but my friends are avid river cruisers all over Europe. (I'm still a landlubber and will be until my feet totally give out.) My friends have been trying to persuade me to try river cruising, enticing me with stories of the "5-star buffet dining" they always manage to get. I mention this because on a buffet you can usually choose whatever you want. So you could avoid all cheeses, sauces and sweets that look like they may have been made with dairy, etc. Bring your own powdered non-dairy creamer for your coffee. It seems like it would be not much different than what you might do at a buffet at home. If it's not buffet-style, then I would think any good cruise line would give the opportunity to specify dietary restrictions. Even the RS land tours allow for that, and the guides are always helpful in making sure tour members' needs are met.

We leave in August, I just didn't think about food. This is our first trip to Europe. I never worried about it going to Hawaii, no dairy in fruit, seafood and Mai tais!

Rose and all, thank you all! I hit the panic button when I saw all the food! We are taking AMA and I am sure that by eating whole foods we will be fine. But you're right about coffee creamer!
