I have to post this as a question in order to comply with the posting rules. DB German Rail is turning 175 this year and offer a few specials to commemorate this event. The German word for anniversary is "Jubiläum" and there are a Jubiläums-Pass, a Jubiläums-Ticket and a Jubiläums-Pass 175 out there. Check out bahn.de for details...
Andreas, is this through Dec. 31st or for a limited time? Danke!
I need some help since my German is a bit rusty. I'd like to use the Jubilaums-Ticket to travel from Munich to the Basel Badischer Bahnhof. I believe this will work because Badischer Bahnhof is German soil. Can anyone confirm that?
Looks like it consists of two offers. The Jubiläum-Ticket is for €35 for up to two from anywhere in Germany to anywhere in Germany anytime in June. Tickets are limited and sales start May 17.
The Jubiläums Pässe is for unlimited travel. It's for either 175 hours (about 7 days) for €175 or for a month for €299 between June 16 and August 31. Doesn't say passes are limited.
Basel Bad Bahnhof is inside of Basel, Switzerland, but is considered a German Rail border station, so travel to it would be included as long as you come into the station directly from Germany (you probably need to go up the Rhein from Karlsruhe to Basel Bad Bhf).
Andreas, that offer is only given in German. How diabolical; I love it.
very small correction - the Jubilaeums Ticket for E35 for one trip for two in June - is ONLY for sale on May 17. One-day sale. Yes, supplies are limited.
You're right, the tickets are only on sale for one day, May 17. I thought that sales started on May 17. Nevertheless, at that price they probably won't last a day, anyway. Note that midnight, May 17, in Germany, is about 6 PM, May 16, EDT.
James,
I don't think Strasbourg is a border station, but you can get to Kehl and it's just a few Euro from there. Or, if you are going further into France, you can probably get a train from Offenburg.
And I don't think the Basel SBB station is a border station, either. The border station is Basel Bad (Badischer) Bahnhof, which is in Basel Switzerland, but part of the DB system. Basel SBB is just a few minutes by tram (~€3).
DB ticket counters sell a Germany rail map for a few Euro. Not only does it show all of the rail routes on the front, but the back shows all of the Verkehrverbünde (very handy when getting local fares).
