Destination on Route?

Hi, my friend and I will be travelling a bit in May and June. We are flying into London and flying out of Barcelona. We will be spending considerable amounts of time in London, Paris, Barcelona and some surrounding areas. We would like to add another stop possibly for 1 or 2 nights somewhere between London and Paris or between Paris and Barcelona. We will be taking the train between destinations most likely, so somewhere accessible by train would be good. Any ideas on where to stop? I've looked around and found Mont St. Michel, Bordeaux, Montpellier, and (a bit off course, but..) Amsterdam as options. Anybody have any other ideas? Or thoughts on those destinations? Thanks,
Mary

hi, comment about trains. you may want to look at the travel distance (durations) and determine if its better (faster) to fly. IE Paris to Barcelona. Yes, i love the trains over there, but as i said in other posts, if your hind end is warming a seat, youre not pounding the ground seeing/doing things. however, if the idea of country side flying by is touring then, go for it. as far as (afa) recommendations for a second stop. i would think of it this way, your time is limited and as mentioned above, look for something close or not far off the beaten track. Mont St Michel can be off the beaten track for you. you can stop in Calais (first stop in Fr for the Eurostar) and work your way over there by car? I think it will be a long drive tho. If you did, i would probably spend overnight someplace and dump the car to take a train into paris. From Bayeux (normandy area) to Paris is about a 2 hour train ride and it wasnt that expensive. If you want to have some fun, you can drive in Paris. I took a shuttle bus from Bayeux to Mont st Michel. It was 65 USD. There are direct (nonstop) trains from Paris to Amsterdam, but they take about 4 hours one way. So, if you want to go back, theres 8 hours gone. Not alot of time to do anything. So an overnight stay would be required. as far as the other 2 places you mention, im not aware of them or havent been there, yet. maybe someone can recommend something. oh and by the way (btw) you may want to say what you all like to do/see so the suggestions could be of help instead of shots in the dark. happy trails.

If going London, Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam is in the wrong direction. I think I would get to Barcelona and do a couple day trips from there. How much time do you have?

You coultd fly from Paris to Madrid, then train to Barcelona. From Madrid, you can day-trip to Toledo and to Cordoba.

Between Paris and Barcelona, I like Avignon for its walled city and papal palace, views of the Rhone river, a couple of museums, decent restaurants and so on. It's touristy but a modern small city surrounds the historic centre, giving it a genuine municipal life. It's on the TGV line too.
