I am part of a group traveling to Switzerland for a ski trip. We fly from Newark to Amsterdam then on. We come back through Amsterdam however have decided to stay in town for a few days. Our departure taxes from the agent are over $350.00 per person. Is this reasonable? Thanks for your reply.
You need to explain that tax a little more. I have never encountered a departure tax in Europe. The last departure tax I had was $20 in Costa Rico. Or are you just asking about the taxes on your airline tickets?
Hello Jill. Ask a ticket agent of the airline to explain to you what the extra $ 350. is for. The airports impose a fee, for each passenger, for each departure of an airplane. If you will be in a total of six airplanes, you probably are paying airport fees for six airplane departures. If the $ 350. also includes a tax imposed by the federal government, and all the fees and surcharges added to the airline's price for the tickets, the $ 350. is not unusual, for travelling that distance.
Compare your agent's airfares to the posted online fares. Then you will know if you are getting ripped off. You very well may be!
