Decent Paris hotel--not Rue Cler

we are visiting Paris for the 3rd time this coming December and we would like a moderately priced Paris hotel recommendation, good location (Rue Cler is a bit far from the sites) with a good included breakfast. We would prefer a hotel close to the Louvre or the Latin Quarter (basically walking distance from most major sites)

Thanks!

RS's "Paris-2009" guide book has numerous recommendations for hotels in different parts of Paris.

I have stayed at Hotel College de France. I don't think it includes breakfast, but it's a great location in the Latin Quarter and reasonably priced.

Grande Hotel Jeanne d'Arc was nice when I stayed a couple of years ago. It's on a tiny, relatively quiet street in the Marais. Easy walk to Notre Dame, and the Louvre was also walkable. And it was less than a block from the Metro and a major shopping street. Accomidations were simple, but I really liked it and found the staff to be very helpful.

We also liked our stay at Hotel Jeanne d'Arc

The location in the Marais is great, the price is very reasonable, but I don't think that breakfast is included in the cost. There are many great dining options nearby however!

I don't know what you consider moderately priced, but we've stayed twice at Hotel Saint Jacques, in the western part of the 5th (the Latin Quarter). It's on rue des Ecoles, one block south of Place Maubert and 2-3 blocks from Notre Dame. We loved the area and some rooms have balconies. Rooms are nice and many are big, beds very good, nice bathrooms. Can't remember if breakfast is included. Lots of hotels are no longer including breakfast. We've also stayed at Hotel du Pantheon, right next to the Pantheon. Very nice hotel also. Hotel Marignan is extremely budget, nothing wrong with that, just depends what you're looking for. I lived at Hotel Marignan for 6 wks in 1975 when I was a starving student, double rooms were $10 per night! Also, you may want to check out Hotel Familia, in RS Paris guide, it's also on rue des Ecoles.

Hi-3 summers ago we stayed at the Hotel Familia and were quite happy (although a bit hot in summer w/no a.c.) It's on Rue des Ecoles across from nice pattisserie and cafe. Wonderful croissants, coffee, and juice in a.m. We had a small balcony and view of Notre Dame, which was a 10 minute walk. It's a 2 star hotel and they own a 3 star right next door (Hotel Leveque??). It was also easy 5 min walk to Metro station. Bon Voyage!

The view of Notre Dame from Hotel Familia is the very top portion of the towers.

We have stayed at Hotel Grandes Ecoles(5 arr) several times. Last stay (May 2008) our room was 128 euros and overlooked the beautiful garden--huge Plane Tree just outside our window gave the hotel a countryside feel. The hotel is within walking distance to ND and many restaurants and sights.

Just got back,, stayed at Hotel de la Place du
Louvre,, LOVED IT. Loved it so much I cancelled another hotel I had booked for the second part of my Paris visit( I stayed in Paris for 5 nights, then went to London for three, then returned to Paris)

Location was tops, close to metro, 1/2 block( less really) to Seine ( so you can easily walk across bridges and be in the "busy " 5th or 6th in mere minutes.
Staff were nice, rooms were nice.. will definately stay again, only caveat is one room they gave me had two levels, so would not suit someone with mobility issues( it was the Picasso room, all rooms named after artists) . My fave room was the Klee room.

An excellent Latin Quarter hotel is the Henri VI. It is not a cheap stay, but provides excellent value: small, rooms spacious and impeccably kept, excellent location, friendly and English-speaking staff, and incidentally a hotel that does provides a large family room.

Hotel Henri VI is a wonderful hotel. The same owners also own two hotels on Ile Saint Louis: Hotel de Lutece and Hotel des Deux Iles....both wonderful and about the same price as Henri VI. Ile Saint Louis is absolutely charming, like a little village unto itself, and my favorite area to stay in Paris. You can't go wrong with any of these three hotels.

I have two recommendations. They are both located in the Marais, but the Loiret is a bit closer to the Latin Quarter. I dont think the Sejour serves breakfast. I know the Loiret does, but I think it was extra. You're better off going to the corner cafe for breakfast though - cheaper and tastier.
