Hello all,
Our first time riding a train in Germany will be next month. We have a reservation in a compartment on an IC train. I can see the car number and seat numbers on our reservation. But, I'm not sure how to ask this without sounding dense, but...here goes.... Is a compartment accessed from a seperate door in the side of the car (remember John Wayne slamming all the doors shut in "The Quiet Man"?) or do you board as usual and access it from an aisle? Do you see what I'm getting at? Can we just find Wgn 9 and hop on and find the compartment, or do we need to find Wgn 9 PLUS look for our seats before we hop on?
thanks
In this video you will see what a compartment car looks like, and how to tell where your seat is:
When you're outside the train standing on the platform, each car will have a sign indicating the car's number. Once you enter the proper car finding your seat is straight forward.
It really depends. There are still some side aisle (compartment) coaches out there, but I have not seen one of them in years. Most of the trains now have center aisle coaches. You just have reserved seat as on an airplane.
From the airport in Frankfurt (FRA) to Koblenz is a relly short trip. there is really no need for a reservation.
Thanks guys.. We're good to go,
