My wife and I will be taking the City Night Line train from Paris to Munich in early October. Am I really, really missing something or is DB Bahn that much cheaper than Rail Europe?
German Rail, or DB, is the national rail company of Germany. The price at which they sell their tickets, online or at the counter, is the minimum price. Rail Europe is essentially a ticket reseller (owned by French Rail). They add their own commission to the price of tickets from German Rail. In addition, German Rail has some advance purchase discount tickets that are even less and are not offered by Rail Europe.
And, RailEurope doesn't even show you the full schedule of trains. Deutsche Bahn will show you every train in Germany and many outside of Germany as well (although they won't sell or show prices for trains that operate entirely outside of the country).
