I was wondering if there are any German towns that are close to Amsterdam and worth a day trip. If so please help. Don't mind going to any German town just for some good beer. ;)
By train you can easily daytrip as far into Germany as Cologne and Düsseldorf. I hope some one on here knows more pretty small towns in that area but if not I could recommend to visit Borken (http://www.borken.de/sehenswertes.html), although it's quite rural there and doing it by car would be much more worthwhile... A typical and famous beer in that part of Germany would be an Alt-Beer, which is a dark, almost black but Lager-like beer (as compared to a Stout which is much more creamy and thick).
We enjoyed Aachen. A lot of history in that town. Also Trier...don't recall how close to A'Dam.
The open air museum in Arnhem NL near the german border is one of my all time favorite things to do in summer europe there is at the same location a world class art museum i forget the name
