Looking for a day trip outside of Amsterdam
My favorite is the Delft-Hauge combo described in Rick's guidebook...preferably on a Saturday.
I took the train to Haarlem and really enjoyed the walking tour that I did with friends.
Pam
look into harleem, Enkhuizen, Delft & Edam. They are all a fun day nrby to Amsterdam.
enjoy.

I second the Delft-Hague combo. If you want to visit the Peace Palace at The Hague, you'll need to make a reservation in advance. You can send them an e-mail.
Haarlem is one of my favorite towns close to Amsterdam (under 20 mins by train). It's cozy, with a picturesque windmill close to the train station, a great market place (market days Mon/Sat) in the center, really good restaurants, and bars filled with friendly people.
Zandvoort which is on the beach and a 30 minute train ride from Amsterdam is a great town, miles and miles of beaches and a great little downtown with all sorts of shops/restaurants. All within walking distance of the train. We were there last week. Harlem is a must see as well, and is a stop between Amsterdam and Zandvoort.
One of my favorite excursions was to the Kroller Muller Museum. It has the largest collection of Van Goghs and also a wonderful outdoor sculpture garden. Just getting there is half of the fun; you can take a train from Amsterdam, then a bus for a portion of the way, then you bike through the national park that it's in. All the directions are in Rick's guidebook. Fascinating and fun!
Rent a bike and ride north through Waterland.
I have done: combo of Aalsmeer flower market with Delft Rotterdam
The Hague All were very good, all on my own, by train.
I agree with Andrea--De Hoge Veluwe National Park and the Kröller-Müller Museum. Check it out here: http://www.hogeveluwe.nl/en/14.
