Hello - We'll be staying a week in Orange, Provence and would appreciate some suggestions of reasonable day trips to take from there. We will be renting a car so we can be pretty flexible. However, we prefer to have plenty to see "along the way". Thank you!
Is there a particular reason you'll be staying in Orange for a week? The Roman theater is an amazing must-see, but that's about all there is to do, and I didn't find the town very appealing otherwise. I highly recommend you get Rick Steves Provence And The French Riviera; it has much more information about this area than his France book. Of the places in that area that I saw, I loved Nimes the most. I didn't have a car, so I went to Arles and Avignon (and particularly recommend Arles), but didn't go to the small towns north of Orange that you will want to visit.
Actually staying near Orange...in Pierlette (spelling?). Looked like a good central place to see Provence. We could change our minds and stay near St. Remy.
