Day trips from Munich

We used Rick Steves' Italy guide and were so happy with Moretti Taxi's day trip along the Amalfi Coast. Now we are traveling to Munich and are looking for something similar for a day trip to Neuschwanstein Castle and a half day trip to Dachau. Can someone recommend something similar to Moretti?

No need for "something similar to Moretti". You can easily do these day trips on your own, for a LOT less money than the same thing from a 3rd party tour. Dachau: Dachau is a near suburb of Munich. The S-Bahn (S2) takes you from anywhere in downtown Munich (Hbf, Karlsplatz, Marienplatz, Ostbahnhof) out to Dachau Bahnhof. From Dachau Bahnhof, there is a bus (#726) to the Memorial. The bus stop in front of the Dachau Bahnhof is clearly marked in English. The entire trip takes about 40 min. Dachau is in the second zone of the Munich transit district. If you are already touring in Munich, you should be using an Innenraum Tageskarte (day ticket for the inner zone) for 10,60€. For 3€ more, you can get an XXL Partner Tageskarte which gives up to five people unlimited travel in the inner two zones of Munich. The Dachau Memorial gives tours in English at 11:00 and 1:00 PM for 3€. These tours are led by a Memorial-trained guide. Memorial-trained guides must pass a more rigorous test than must outside quides. Neustwanstein: You can get to Füssen and to the castle by yourself using public transportation. Kathryn, If you'd prefer to have a guided tour, you might have a look at Radius Tours. Travel to each location will be via public transit, but they take care of all the arrangements, reservations for Neuschwanstein, etc. I've used them in the past, and was very pleased with the service. Happy travels!

"they take care of all the arrangements, reservations for Neuschwanstein, etc." Note, they take care of the "arrangements", but you pay the extra (12,00€) for the tickets to the castle. All they is do get you out to the castle on the train and bus, which will cost you a lot less than 39€ ($52) if you do it yourself. Two people going out to the castle on a Bayern-Ticket will cost 26€ (about $17.50 ea).

We took a Radius tour to Dachau and we had an excellent guide who was very knowledgable and was able to answer all of our questions. It was an outstanding experience. We were so happy with that experience we decided to take a Radius tour to Salzburg. That was not as good an experience, not that it was bad. I would recommend doing to tour to Dachau, but would suggest doing Neuschweinstein on your own. You will take their tour when you get there.
