My wife and I are going to stay in Menton France for about 10 days and are looking for day trips.

Villefranche-Sur-Mer is a nice little town. Nice and Monaco are worthy stops. Cinque Terre is a few hours away so would require an overnight - but worth it.

What sort of things do you like? Gardens? Fruit? Villages? Cities? Italian? French? Art? Architecture? Water fun and games? Gambling? Society? Perfume? Its all there but we need a steer from you. BTW - time of year can be important. And are you driving or relying on buses and trains?

The most important info is that you can go anywhere along the coast by local train, into Italy too. All the way to Genoa and back would be a day trip, but you have San Remo and other towns before Genoa.
Next, Friday mornings there is a HUGE market in Ventimiglia, the Italian town right over the border which you can reach by train. Clothing and other vendors come up from all over Italy to sell. You might want to look for bus service into the back country behind Menton: Sospel, Castillon, Gorbio which is perched high on the mountain. There are many other little towns with painted chapels in the mountains behind Menton but I'm not sure which have bus service. This whole area used to be part of Italy. Also, Roquebrune Cap Martin is 3 kilometers from Menton going toward Monaco. The old village of Roquebrune is up on the mountain, while Cap Martin is along the sea. You can get up to Roquebrune on a hiking trail or there's bus service, but I don't know the route exactly. There is a very old chateau ruin, interesting houses, shops, a thousand year-old olive tree, restaurants, and a great view of Monaco and beyond. Finally, you may be able to get up to La Turbie, up high, high on the mountain above Roquebrune and Monaco. It is famous for "Le Trophee des Alpes" a huge, white monument built by the Romans to celebrate the Roman victory over the tribes living in the alps. There is also a Michelin 2-star restaurant up there.
