I will be traveling to Paris in early July and we would like to do a self-guided day trip to the Champagne region or comparable region by train. Is a day trip to the Champagne region possible or is it better to sign up with a tour bus?
Very easy to do as a day trip by train. I recommend Riems as it has a wonderful cathedral and is the home of the major champaign producers.
Just did it today -- the TGV train only takes about 45 minutes each way (need reservations. Also, call ahead to the cellars you're interested in for tour times, and reservations are needed for some.
Thanks for the info. After you arrived, did you rant a car or scooter to go to the different tasting rooms?
