Day Trip to Reims

My husband and I will be traveling to Paris in August. We would like to visit Reims. We're not sure whether we should pay for a guided tour or just explore on our own.

  1. Does anyone have a recommendation for a guided tour?

  2. If we choose to explore on our own and take the train, will we be able to visit various wineries by foot? Is it easy to get around the city? Are the sites easy to find on your own?

Thanks so much in advance!

Melinda,in our 5 trips to Europe in the past 5 years,we have NEVER taken a guided tour...EXCEPT the Reims Champagne day tour!We normally just do everything independently. However, this was an amazing experience for us,and I think it would have been difficult to have gotten to some of the out of the way places with public tranportation. We had dinner at a small champagne vineyard/farm where the food was so fresh that the chickens were running around outside the restaurant, one of our most amazing meals ever. And throughout, they gave you as much champagne as you wanted! It was good that we didn't have to deal with directions and getting lost!We really enjoyed sharing the meal with the other travelers, especially with all of the wine and champagne free flowing! Also, it was easier to put purchases on the bus than to have to carry them on the train. It was absolutley worth the money.I can't remember which company it was(too much champagne?) but we visited Mumm and several other champagne houses.
