Day Trip to Kinderdijk

I am trying to sort out plans for a single day trip to Kinderdijk from Amsterdam. Can anyone recommend a package tour, or would it be better to make my own arrangements (train/bus/boat)? Is this trip easily do-able in one day? Any other suggestions or recommendations? Thanks!

We were on a 16-day river cruise-so I can't say anything except 'Don't cut it out of your plan'.

Could you rent a car for the day? It is super easy if you have a car and just drive there. Depending on how many people in your group this might be the cheaper option too. Just drive, park in the small lot, pay a few euros, walk around or pay about 1-2 more to take a little boat ride thru the canal area. Pay a few more euros to go inside one of the windmills. VEry cheap in all. Call it a fun visit drive some where else and see something else on your way back to Amsterdam. Definitely worth the trip. Super easy to do on your own.

I'm traveling solo, so renting a car for one day looks to be around USD 140 + fuel; Hesitant to drive there, I'm fine on LA freeways, but something about the roadsigns being in Dutch seems a bit intimidating! :) Looked online for Gray Line tours, but didn't see anything to Kinderdijk. I'll try emailing my hotel for recommendations. I found a few older posts about taking a train to Rotterdam, then taking a tram or bus, then a boat. May be the best way, just haven't been able to get enough specifics for my liking yet, I'll keep trying!

It is about a 2 hour trip from Amsterdam Central station to Kinderdijk. First, take a train to Utrecht Central or Rotterdam Lombardijen (not Rotterdam Central, but perhaps via Central). Then, take (Arriva) bus 90 to Kinderdijk, Molenkade There are alternative routes, including a ferry from Ridderkerk (neer Rotterdam) to Kinderdijk, if you want de scenic route. To plan your public transport journey in the Netherlands, use journeyplanner.9292.nl. That's the official journeyplanner of the Dutch public transport companies.

Driving there is the easiest way (I'm leaving nearby, 70km east of the location). If you don't want to drive, the second best option is as follows: - take a train to Rotterdam Centraal (new high(er) speed Fyra trains take only 49 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal there) - take a subway to Leuwehaven (4 stops) and walk to the nearby pier where you can then take a REBUS boat excursion (www.http://www.rebus-info.nl) to Kinderdijk. They have 2 departures: 10.45 (return 14.00) and 14.15 (return 17.30). My suggestion: go on the 10.45 boat and return on the 17.30.
