I will be in Paris the third week of October, and would like to take a day trip that includes Giverny and Auvers sur Oise. While I know that there are public transportation options, I am interested in a tour. Any suggestions or recommendations?

Context Paris does a tour of Giverny. I've always had great luck with them. Suggest you take a look at their website

I took a tour, the problem was that our bus got caught in terrible traffic, took us hours to get back to Paris. A train would have been more reliable.

We were on a Rick Steves Paris City Tour in May, 2012. After the tour was over, we stayed on in Paris for a few days. We went to Giverny on our own by train, and enjoyed the flexibility. One of our tour mates booked a bus tour to Giverny, and was dismayed at the fact that she had to rush to meet the bus after an all-too-short visit.
