Day trip in Salzburg, enough time?

I'm thinking about stopping in Salzburg for 8 hours or so on my way from Vienna to Munich. Is this going to be enough time or is this some where I should spend more time in? It maybe possible for me to rearrange my dates a bit to fit a bit more time there. My trip consists of Iceland, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, a bit north of Berlin (not exact yet), Prague, Vienna, Munich and back to Paris for a couple days.

Thank you!

If you haven't already done it, pick up the RS tour book and read what there is to see in Salzburg and what interests you. Yes, you could spend only 8 hrs there, but you could also spend several days there. It all depends on what you want to see and do.

We were in Salburg for one day and we went to the Geitreidgasses and shopped and went to the Fortress and Mirabella park. That was enough for us but if you are a Mozart fan I would spend more time there.

you can definitely spend 8 hrs there and enjoy yourself....I could spend many days there and I have been there twice in the last few years...but only for one or two days each time. definitely go thru the Altstadt (old city) streets, even if you do not want to shop ...and the fortress/castle is wonderful.and have lunch outside if you can..many restaurants there and I never had a bad meal..this time I took a horse carriage ride thru town and my girls and I loved it.....you can definitely get the feel of its history and age...I love hearing the bells ring on the hour, and eating outside (and in) It has a charm to it that entranced me and even my 3 adult kids say it was there favorite city of many...and it is hard to put a finger on just why...just the feel of being there and the beauty......So GO and stay as long as you can...walking around at dusk is wonderful too.

I would go, even if it is just 8 hours. We did a day trip to Salzburg from Munich before. We will do the same thing in September when we are back in Bavaria. It is better to see a little, than not see it at all. Be sure you have an idea of what you would like to see so you don't waste your limited time.

Thank you! I'll think I'm going to stick with stopping over in Salzburg for the day on my way to Munich. I'm so excited for my trip!

Enjoy! I am jealous of your agenda! I loved Munich and Paris also (just a few days each unfortunately) each city has a very different "vibe"....I'd love to know what you think of the other cities...have fun!

We spent 4 days and nights in Salzburg and saw the majority of the sites in 3 days. We usually plan a rest and relaxing day in the cities we visit.

Just carefully plan your trip and you can see a lot.
